Pembroke 36 Dreigiau Emlyn 32

Admiral National League 4 West A

AFTER claiming their first league win of the season the weekend before away in Llanybydder, the buoyant Pembroke squad were very keen to claim another win at home to Dreigiau Emlyn last Saturday.

In marvellous conditions both teams served up a real humdinger that proved a great advert for Division 4 community rugby.

Pembroke scored first after five minutes, then the match became a real stalemate until the visitors scored two tries in quick succession.

The home side then struck twice, as their forwards and backs combined very well in the final ten minutes of the half. In reply the visitors’ single penalty left the sides all square at the break.

Pembroke’s dominant scrum caused the visitors a lot of trouble, although they kicked a penalty early in the half.

The home side rallied and scored two more well crafted tries to establish a clear lead and claim a bonus point.

Pembroke then lost wing Barry Alderman-John to a yellow card, which inspired the visitors, who took advantage scoring a very good try to bring the scores close.

Pembroke responded again and their forwards carved an opportunity for skipper Will Edwards to crash over from ten metres; Sherratt was on target with the conversion.

Pembroke then lost prop Brayford to a yellow card and again the visitors pressed and scored a try to get within four points.

They continued to pressurise the home side but they proved very resilient and eventually repelled numerous attacks to take the win by 36-32, to exuberant scenes on and off the pitch.

Last weekend club Captain Lloyd Davies was selected to play again for the Welsh Academicals against Oxford University. Lloyd thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hopes to be called on again.

The Panthers were in action last weekend, beating a very strong challenge from Piod Pinc (Tumble at home). Last Sunday they beat Newcastle Emlyn 0-24 on the road to keep their winnings record going, after another tough encounter, where the women demonstrated their developing resilience.

The Youth lost to Llangwm in the first round of the District Youth Cup recently, but were not in action last weekend.

Upcoming fixtures include, First XV Llangwm away this weekend, then Quins home on November 23 in the Pembs KO Plate quarter final, which will be sponsored by the PRFC Countryboys.

The Youth play Tenby away Saturday.

The Panthers play West Swansea Hawks away this weekend and have been drawn away to Abergele in the WRU National Shield on Sunday November 24.

On November 23 at the Quins Plate match there will be a bucket collection by a local family in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance.
