Local sporting hero Chris McEwen provides inclusive boxing at his gym Pembroke and Pembroke Dock ABC.
Chris is set to feature in ‘FIGHTERS’ - a new feature length documentary coming soon from Ben&Jack Studio [directed by Michael Grimmett and Jack Tompkins] aiming to inspire non-disabled people to join the fight for disability equality in society.
The documentary tells the story of amputee boxer Matt Edwards who dreams of becoming professional but is constantly denied an assessment for a boxing license due to his prosthesis.
Matt’s story parallels the ableism and discrimination disabled people face everyday simply trying to be part of and contribute to society.
Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Samuel Kurtz who met with Chris recently, said: “Chris is just an incredible inspiration and force in fighting for better awareness of disability in sport, for facilities, opportunities, and equality for everyone regardless of disabilities.
“Like many clubs, money is always an issue and very much needed to keep developing the facility.
“Chris has some exciting plans for the building - which is so much bigger than it looks from the road - which importantly incorporates the whole community and the many ways it can deliver improvements to it at its very core.
“Chris and the club are also featured in an upcoming Netflix documentary FIGHTERS which promises to make an impact and challenge perceptions of equality in sport. Powerful viewing and just fantastic to see Chris, a local resident, featured in this way,” he added.
