NARBERTH notched their first Division One win of the Thomas Carroll Pembrokeshire League campaign when they beat a high quality Carew team by three wickets onSaturday.
Batting first, the visitors made the mistake of declaring in Narberth, thinking that 248 was enough, but the hosts passed the total with two overs and three wickets in hand.
Rhys Davies led the way for Carew with 76 runs ably supported by Tim Hicks on 56 and Morgan Grieve with 29 to what seemed like a pretty decent total.
But the wicket, expertly prepared by groundsmen Matthew Johns, Rob Simons and Mike, favoured the batsmen and Narberth took full advantage.
Kyle Quartermaine (66), Jamie McCormack (57) and Jack Bowen (45no) all continued their impressive starts to the season, and all-rounder Ben Hughes put in a player-of-the-match performance to help secure the victory with 29 runs and bowling figures of 3-22.
Saundersfoot lost by three wickets against visitors Lawrenny.
The hosts’ Tom Mansbridge led the way with 37 runs as they were all out for 215, Troy Purslowe the pick of Lawrenny’s bowlers with 3-28.
Will Allen with 54 runs set the tone for Lawrenny’ chase and they passed the target with plenty to spare.
For Saundersoot Nav Kawale posted 2-55.
