Saundersfoot’s Sam Coleman was joined by NFL icon Tom Brady along with his family for celebrations at the E1 Venice GP race as ‘Team Brady’ sealed back-to-back victories in the UIM E1 World Championship.
Sam continues to make a splash across the globe in the sport of powerboating, now racing for one of the world’s most successful sports stars, seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady.
The ‘Team Brady’ owner who was in the city over the weekend of May 11/12 to support his team throughout the race weekend, celebrated with his pilots - Sam and Emma Kimiläinen in the Venetian sunshine following the win.
Brady said: “It was an amazing team effort, Sam and Emma were incredible.
“I’m just so proud of the team and everything they're doing, we got off to a great start a few months ago in Jeddah, and we’ve just got to keep it going from here. This is something really special.”
Sam added: “It's been a weekend of blood, sweat and tears!
“The racing has been so competitive – it has been a real rollercoaster. My parents and wife made the trip out here to watch the race, I’m proud we could deliver for them and for Tom Brady too.”
Fellow pilot Emma said: “That was just mega. To win with Tom Brady watching on just felt incredible. There was so much happening during the race, but I’ve had the speed all weekend, so I just went out there and did my own thing.
“It’s Mother’s Day today and my daughter is my star. It’s really special to show her that you can work hard and chase your dreams and to compete with these incredible people, is just awesome.”
Co-Team Principal, Ben King said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling winning here in Venice. Of course, there were high expectations after securing the win in Jeddah, but we used that pressure to deliver, and it was amazing to do so with Tom here this weekend.
“There were definitely a lot of challenges, but the whole team did an incredible job.”
Welshman Sam was introduced to powerboat racing in 2013 by his sister Daisy Coleman, and has gone on to become a house-hold name in the P1 SuperStock class where he has won four World Championships.
The debut electric racing championship, which sees nine teams battle it out on the water reaching speeds in excess of 50 knots (92kph / 57 mph), will race in iconic coastal cities across the world including - Monaco, Puerto Banus and Hong Kong.
The Championship continues in Puerto Banus, Marbella on June 1 and 2; with the series culminating in a race to Hong Kong on November 9 and 10.
