STORM Bert produced so much rain over the weekend that very sadly Pembroke RFC’s much anticipated local derby clash with the Quins at Crickmarren, in the quarter final of the Pembs KO Plate, had to be called off at midday due to the unsafe ground conditions.

The severity of the weather also saw off most of the matches around the Principality. The match will now be rescheduled.

Under 16s scrum half Dafydd Killian started for the Pembs Dewar Shield squad at Tenby last Friday night, in the quarter final of this oldest of age group competitions in front of a very large crowd.

The weather was calm and mild and conditions were perfect for the players to express their full array of talents and skills and they didn’t disappoint.

The match was a marvellous spectacle with play continually swinging between the two halves.

The local lads produced some flowing moves that brought success and they held the lead going into the final minutes of a pulsating match.

Swansea however, maintained pressure and eventually their extra weight up front proved the decisive factor when they got close to the home try line and this won them the day, when they forced a try very late in the game to take it 16-21, in what had been a great advert for age grade rugby.

The U13s were the only age group to play last weekend, when they entertained Crymych at the Harri Tudor school pitch, in their age group cup match.

The home side produced some very good phases of play and eventually triumphed by 22-0.

Upcoming fixtures include First XV home to Crymych this Saturday, KO 2.30pm, Panthers are travelling to Abergele in their WRU Bowl first round, the Youth have a bye weekend, the Junior age groups will be out in force across the district.

This Friday night sees the first Winter Quiz start at 7.15pm for teams of 4-6; everyone is welcome to come along and there will be the usual entry fee and hospitality provided.

The dates for the other two new year quizzes are displayed outside the club.

Tickets for the New Years Eve party are now on sale, anyone wishing to attend should see the steward.

The club was represented at the WRU AGM that took place in the Vale Resort last weekend.

The meeting was well attended given the extreme weather and proved one of the most animated, with delegates from across the Principality probing the WRU Board members with a wide variety of poignant questions on many relevant issues, which included the future of Warren Gatland and his coaching group.
