A ST Clears athlete had plenty to celebrate on his return from the Paris 2024 Paralympics after winning a gold medal and being chosen as Great Britian and Northen Ireland flag bearer at the closing ceremony.
Para taekwondo star Matt Bush defeated the neutral paralympic athlete Aliaskhab Ramazanov 5-0, in the men's K44 +80kg final.
Bush became Britain’s first ever male para taekwondo athlete to win World Championship gold in 2019.
The former shot putter seized the opportunity to switch to the sport in 2017 after realising it had joined the Paralympic roster - and he hasn’t looked back since.
Despite securing a qualification place for Tokyo 2020, Bush was unable to compete after he was forced to withdraw with an ACL injury and was replaced by teammate Joe Lane.
Since recovering from the injury Matt won Gold at the 2023 World Championships, a Gold at the Grand Prix in China in 2023, and a Bronze at the European Championships 2024 in Serbia.
Para cyclist Steffan Lloyd, who was educated at Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, also won gold as a pilot for fellow Welshman, James Ball, in the men's B 1,000m time trial.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Congratulations to Matt and Steffan on their remarkable achievements.”
