TENBY Golf Club recently hosted the annual Neil Rees Memorial competition which is held for golfers who have represented Tenby United RFC.

Neil tragically died in a car accident in 1987. Over the intervening years, numerous rugby players have had their first proper taste of golf via the Neil Rees Memorial and have subsequently joined Tenby GC.

The weather for the 2023 event was horrendous. This year it was better albeit very windy. The greens were slick but the rough was thick.

In the main category, the Neil Rees Cup, Richard Rossiter was third with a fine 34 points and Ian Badham was runner-up with an excellent 36 points.

However, proving he can perform in all conditions, former centre Chris Evans is champion for the second successive year with a magnificent 42 points.

The event’s handicap committee will be thoroughly scrutinising his card and also general play prior to next year’s competition.

The Novices Section was also well contested. Dylan Rees and Archie Williams shared second spot with 33 points but clear winner was Iori Badham with a fine 37 points.

Chris Hughes retained his Seniors’ Crown with 33 points. Dave Randall topped the Guests’ Section with 33 points.

All those who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves. However, a possible change of format is being considered for the 2025 event.
