GOODWICK United have been crowned Division One champions of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League for the third season in a row after they beat Pennar Robins 2-0 at Phoenix Park on Saturday.

It was a fitting tribute to former player Kevin Merry who passed away recently.

A minute’s silence was held as a mark of respect for Merry who led the team to the First Division title in the 1977/78 season.

The club posed: “He was a tremendous captain leading by example.

“After his playing days were over he served as a hard working member of the committee.

“He was assistant manager when the club won the Senior Cup in 1987/88.

“He continued his support for the club until the present day. He will be sorely missed by everyone involved with the club.”

Second half goals by Matthew Delaney and Rhys Jones secured the win with Goodwick now aiming to finish the season unbeaten.

Tenby moved up to fourth in the table with a 3-1 win against visitors Carew who took an early lead through Jonathan Bennett.

Curtis Hurlow equalised midway through the half before two second half strikes by Joe Leahy sealed the victory.

St Ishmael moved three points clear of the drop as they picked up what could be a crucial point with a 2-2 draw against visitors Kilgetty.

Teenager Mason Abbot gave the visitors the lead on 12 minutes and bagged his brace just after the hour mark to put Kilgetty in the driving seat.

But Tish were given a lifeline when Kyle Marsh diverted the ball past his brother Kurtis in goal on 74 minutes.

Kilgetty appeared to have done enough to take the points but Brennan Devonald netted a dramatic equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time.

Merlins Bridge were comfortable 4-1 winners against relegated Milford United.

The first half seemed destined to finish goalless but the Wizards scored twice on the stroke of half time.

Jason Griffiths opened their account on 44 minutes with Jordan Thomas doubling their tally in the third minute of stoppage time.

Skipper Scott Reid pulled one back for the Robins after latching on to Joey Jones’ probing pass on the hour but the hosts finished strongly.

Nathan Evans made it 3-1 with a close range finish before substitute Ben Davies capped a fine team performance with his side’s fourth in added on time.
