REIGNING champions Goodwick United maintained their lead at the top of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division One table with a convincing 7-2 win against visitors Monkton Swifts on Saturday.
Rhys Dalling stole the headlines with a four-goal haul at Phoenix Park, the first two in the opening 45 minutes to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at the break, Dylan Davies with the reply for the Swifts.
Dalling notched his hat-trick on 52 minutes and Goodwick, who are four points clear of Hakin United, piled on the pressure with goals by midfielder Rhys Jones and substitute Jonny Horgan.
Credit to Monkton they pulled one back on 70 minutes, Connor Davies with a 25-yard thunderbolt into the top corner giving home keeper Nicholas Jones no chance.
Horgan bagged his brace in the closing stages when he rounded Swifts keeper Jay Kilby and Dalling capped a man of the match performance with his fourth goal in stoppage time, an eye-catching solo effort going past three defenders before finishing with confidence.
Hakin stayed in contention with a 2-0 win against St Ishmaels.
They nudged ahead after just eight minutes when captain Ryan Wilson unleashed a 20-yarder into the bottom corner following a strong run.
They doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Shane Walsh’s cross from the left found Liam Parks in space to finish from close range.
The hosts were guilty of squandering further chances to add to their tally with Tish falling into the relegation zone as a consequence of this defeat.
Clarbeston Road and Carew played out an entertaining 4-4 draw which earned Scott Richards’ side a valuable point to move out of the drop zone.
The visitors took an early lead through Marcus Griffiths but the Road hit back with strikes by Laurie Haworth and Ben John.
Leon Davies equalised for Carew midway through the half and restored his side’s lead just before the hour.
The end-to-end battle continued with Matthew Davies levelling matters in the 69th minute before Howarth bagged his brace to put the hosts ahead again.
But with time running out, Zac Rowell bagged a timely equaliser.
Pennar Robins came from behind to take the three points against a young Milford United side.
The hosts bossed the first half but failed to take their chances with the visitors taking the lead against the run of play on the stroke of half time through Jack Dyer.
Stung into action, the hosts rallied in the second half and equalised through Ben Adams before Cameron Brunton gave them the lead after good work by Luke Phillips.
Phillips bagged his brace from the penalty spot late on to seal the points and a deserved win.
