Tenby had a very up close and personal visit by a Chinook CH47 military helicopter yesterday (Thursday) surprising sunbathers and beach-goers as it headed over the sands and shores of the seaside town!
The tour operators at St Catherine’s Island shared a video of the helicopter taken by Elizabeth Love heading over Castle Beach on June 8, with Island co-ordinator Andi Jones stating: “We had a VERY up close and personal visit by a Chinook CH47 military helicopter - to coin an expression - it was MAHOOOSIVE!”

One person on the beach at the time said on social media: “It was deafening as it headed right above us on Castle Beach!”...another joked that it was so hot that it was ‘just fanning down the beach-goers to keep them cool!’
Other Tenby residents said that they could hear the helicopter from The Glebe and Knowling Mead, whilst even locals nearby to Kilgetty had a visit too, with one stating: “Went so low over Stepaside it shook the house!”

St Catherine’s Island is open most days (depending on the tide times) for tours around the historical landmark. Check their Facebook page for updates.
