Saundersfoot beach has been named in a Tripadvisor top 10 ‘best of the best beaches’ in this year’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.
The website - classed as the world's largest travel platform, helping 463 million travellers each month make ‘every trip their best trip’ - has listed the Pembrokeshire beach at number 3 in its ‘sustainable’ category, which includes places such as Camp's Bay Beach in South Africa and Abu Dhabi’s Corniche Beach - in its top 10 ranking.
“For eco-conscious travellers, the winners stand out for their commitments to sustainability as measured by a combination of inputs from our data partners at BeCause (via the Blue Flag organisation) as well as internal Tripadvisor data points, including beaches where users were most likely to be found discussing sustainability in positive reviews,” stated Tripadvisor of the list.
“The Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel. It’s awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period. Out of our 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieve this milestone.”
With the quality and quantity of ratings for experiences looked at to compile a Top 10 in each category, Tripadvisor stated of Saundersfoot beach: “Saundersfoot is a sandy beach with clear blue waters.
“It's a great spot for paddle boarding or exploring rockpools, and there's also a promenade with shops and cafes. Like jogging? Head there in the early morning, then spend the rest of the day catching some sun.”
Saundersfoot’s county councillor for the south ward, Cllr Chris Williams said: “I’m delighted to hear the news that Saundersfoot beach is so highly thought of. The beach is a fantastic place to walk every day of the year. It offers so much to our community whether your sunbathing in the summer, walking the dogs in the Autumn or heading down to watch or participate in the New Year’s Day Swim.
“The beach has so much to offer and with the many groups that swim all year in our clean waters or just paddle boarding chilling on the water. There are many cafés and businesses to accommodate everyone and there are so many amazing volunteers who help clean the beach every day of the year.
“It is also extremely important to have the safety of the RNLI and their surf and rescue team looking over our blue flag beach,” he added.
