With Coastal Cottages sponsored Tenby forced to make another bout of changes from the previous week, due to injuries and unavailability, they went down by four tries to one against a well organised Lampeter side up at The Playing Fields.
Turning around after a hard fought first half with a narrow 8-6 lead, Lampeter opened-up in the second half, racking up three more tries, while Tenby's efforts yielded a single try by the returning Andrew (Mozza) Dennis.
With a won one game, lost one game record, Lampeter was down as a potential away win game for the United, but a very much changed and weakened side were over-run in the second half, after a reasonable first half, where they more than matched the home side in most aspects of play.
The defences on both sides dominated play in the first half and the Lampeter scoring was restricted to a penalty from fly-half Huw Thomas and a try for centre Gethin Roberts, after a fine break by his 18-year-old fellow centre Brynmor Jones. The Tenby haul was courtesy of two penalties by centre Jimmy Davies.
Lampeter upped the pace in the second half, with the second quarter proving difficult and challenging for coach Emori Katalau as, despite wheeling on Mike Lewis for Mark Brace and shuffling his backline, with wing Barrie John leaving the field and Dan Thomas coming on, Lampeter started to rack-up the tries, with winger Aled Morgan, back rower Ceri Thomas and fly-half Huw Thomas all crossing the line, giving the home side the satisfaction of gaining a four-try bonus point.
Luckily for Tenby, kicker Thomas was off target with his conversions, and was only successful with one attempt. The other score for the home side came from a long-range penalty by wing Lyn Jones, which accounted for their 28 points.
Try as they might, Tenby could not break through the resolute home defence, but their efforts were eventually rewarded when tough-tackling and marauding marine Andrew Dennis went over for a try converted by Jimmy Davies, who also added a third penalty.
The well-deserved home bonus point victory by Lampeter shot them up to third in the league.
The defeat sees Tenby slide down to last but one spot in the league and coach Emori Katalau must hope that for tomorrow's home game against Tumble, he has some of his injured and/or unavailable players returning, as with an impressive won two, lost one record to date, the visitors hold fourth spot in the league and will undoubtedly provide a stern challenge.
