Community group ‘Saundersfoot Connect’ will be marking its fifth anniversay this month - after forming during the Covid pandemic to offer support to those in need.

Saundersfoot Connect was originally started in March 2020 as a Facebook group set up by four friends who live in the village - Sarah Whiddett, Sara Hicks, Jackie Taylor and Ladan Harper.

Its aim was to support residents and business owners in the village during the Coronavirus lockdown. The group’s overarching mantra was, and still is, that people should only post to the group’s social media page if they could answer three questions with a positive answer: ‘is it kind, is it true, is it useful?’

Initially intended to offer information and to keep people company (albeit online) the group quickly grew to a fabulous online community - full of positive, fun and informative posts, with the founders having no idea just how successful it would be.

The volunteers behind the group will be celebrating with a social get together at The Hean pub on Friday, March 21 from 3 to 5pm and everyone is invited to go along.

“It’s hard to believe that the social media group, Saundersfoot Connect, will be 5 years old in March,” said county councillor for the seaside village’s south ward Cllr Chris Williams.

“Originally set up to provide a support network for those who were isolated or in need during lockdown, the group has grown over the last 5 years to be an important communication channel for many things from locating a lost parcel to information on road closures in the village.

“Over the years, the group has been responsible for co-ordinating one of the first webcams in the village as well as setting up two websites, one for general village information and one for events.

“The volunteers behind the scenes work tirelessly to ensure the page continues to be a valuable and professionally run village resource.

“The team at Saundersfoot Connect will be delighted for you to meet them on the 21st and look forward to many more years supporting the village community,” added Cllr Williams.
