Carew entered an under 14s team in the South Wales Junior Hockey Tournament in Brecon on Sunday.

The young Carew Rooks team is made up from youngsters from around the county with Greenhill pupils Ollie Wheeler (captain), John Mansbridge, Jack Burchmore, Alex Lloyd and Alex Orchard being joined by Jack Evans from Haverfordwest and Elliot Colley from Fishguard.

Results were: Gwent A 1 Carew 3; Gwent B/Abergavenny 1 Carew 1; Abergavenny 1 Carew 0; Brecon 0 Carew 4.

Carew's first game against Gwent was a hard-fought game, with Carew coming out on top with three well-worked goals.

Next Gwent B and Abergavenny teamed up to play Carew in a game where the Gwent goalkeeper kept out a barrage of shots on goal from the young Rooks to earn his team a draw..

Avergavenny, borrowing the Gwent 'keeper for their match against Carew, saw the 'keeper again in fine form and once more denying Carew from several scoring chances.

In a really hard game, Ollie Wheeler was taken out and floored by the goalkeeper and Jack Evans was hit on the head from a 'tomahawk' strike at goal by the Abergavenny striker, but they both bravely got up to carry on.

In the final game, Brecon were no match for the young Rooks and, but for some fine goalkeeping by the Brecon goalkeeper, it may well have been more.

Tournament goal scorers were Ollie Wheeler 3, Jack Burchmore 2, Jack Evans 2, Elliot Colley 1.

There was also excellent marking and defending from John Mansbridge and Alex Orchard, with top goalkeeping from Alex Lloyd.
