WISEMAN’S Bridge Rowing Club has been developing its junior sculling section, as part of Saundersfoot's World Coastal Rowing Championships legacy.

They have been training on the rowing machines all winter in Saundersfoot Sailing Club and have been learning to row the Welsh Rowing single, double and quadruple sculling boats.

The juniors have been working hard learning about sea and boat safety, how to use all of the equipment, how to set up, carry, launch and retrieve the boats.

They have started a relationship with Saundersfoot Rotary Club, who have been very keen to support the youngsters.

The club has been able to start raising much needed funds with their help, through selling drinks both at their village pig roast and at the outdoor choir event on the harbour.

The coaches want to be able to provide the young rowers with age appropriate equipment, such as smaller oar handles, essential boat maintenance and club kit to unify the group.

As safety is such a high priority with coastal rowing, in addition to their usual Wiseman's Bridge Rowing Club kit, they would like to design brightly coloured training wear, to ensure the young rowers are properly visible while out at sea.

They train from a busy harbour, where they need to be highly visible to their safety boats, to the working fishing boats, pleasure boats, kayakers, paddleboarders and swimmers.

During the fundraising events, they have been discussing their plans for the future and their concerns with members of The Rotary Club, who have very generously donated £500 to the juniors.

The Rotary also wants to continue this relationship, so that they can be a part of helping to create a future where rowing is accessible to all.

The club is now supported by Saundersfoot Rotary, Wiseman's Bridge Rowing Club and Saundersfoot Sailing Club.
