Three Redwing racing dinghies representing Tenby Sailing Club recently competed in their annual National Championships, this year held at Instow in North Devon.
A fleet of 23 Redwings and loyal supporters gathered for a week of keen competition and socialising in this small but strongly supported racing dinghy class that has been the backbone of Tenby Sailing Club for over 60 years.
After a delayed start owing to a lack of breeze over the Bank Holiday weekend, two races were held on each of the following days to get back on schedule; the championships being a six-race series.
Mike Stace and Deanna Morton sailing ‘Sweet Song’ set a cracking pace and won the first race, taking home the Chris Crockford Memorial Trophy, and went on to get overall fourth in the series.
Bill and Nan Dowell sailing ‘Pintail’ came in 10th overall after coping with a spectacular capsize that cost them the second race and Alex MacDonald and Ruth Allen in ‘Pegasus’ were 11th overall; all the Tenby boats finishing well in the top half of the fleet.
