PEMBROKE First XV entertained lowly Llanybydder last Saturday in a top of table versus basement fixture.

The home side were missing some players to injury, whilst welcoming back a few players that had recently returned from being abroad.

The final score says it all at 89-17 to the home side, but this does not fully reflect the effort that the visitors put in, alongside their never die attitude.

After a tough away encounter, Pembroke played some sublime, flowing rugby in both halves, scoring 15 tries to the visitors’ three, which all came in the second half.

The home side’s handling and support play from both their eager forwards and backs made a huge impact, with them scoring the first try after only three minutes and following up regularly throughout the half.

The visitors tackled manfully, but wave after wave of attacks took their toll and the home side were relentless throughout both halves; the home side lead by 39-0 at the break and added the rest in a fast moving, very entertaining second half of action for the large crowd.

Pembroke brought their whole bench on at the break and they made an immediate impact, continuing the really fluid action of the first half.

Meanwhile, the visitors took their few chances very well in the final quarter, as the home side relaxed, to the delight of their travelling support.

This emphatic, bonus point win means Pembroke move into second place in the league, but the players know there is no room for complacency and that there are some tough away matches to come in the months ahead if they are to challenge Neyland, who deservedly top the league and whose game versus Narberth Athletic was for-shortened in unusual circumstances.

Up coming fixtures include, First XV are away this weekend to Teirw Crymych, no Panthers game, the Youth play Tenby away, and the junior age groups will be playing around the County. The First XV play Quins at home Friday Feb 7 in the Pembs KO Plate quarter final, KO 7.15pm.

The club’s pool team have been performing very well in their first season in the local league, whilst the Friday Flight Nights (for darters of all ages) have really taken off.

The Thursday morning coffee mornings are also proving extremely popular with locals and older people from surrounding villages; last week a large number engaged in a very enjoyable chair yoga session run by the Local Health Board team; everyone is welcome to come along between 10am and midday for the usual refreshments, company and chat.

‘Pointless’ were again successful at last Friday’s Quiz night and they and all the other regulars and visitors are looking forward to the last Quiz on Friday, 21 February, starting at 7.15pm.
