On Saturday, August 5, Pembroke Rugby Club is hosting a charity match, organised by ex-player Richard Jones, who is hoping for a big crowd as he is raising funds for Wales Air Ambulance and Friends of Morristion Hospital, both of whom provided so much support at the time of and since his horrific road accident three years ago that saw him lose a leg.

Gates open at midday, with some exhibition matches to be followed by match involving a Club XV versus a Misfits XV, which kicks off at 2 pm.

The First XV have confirmed a number of pre-season fixtures - August 12 Furnace away, August 19 Tumble at home, and then they play Llangwm home on Wednesday August 23, KO 7 pm in the first round of the Pembs KO Cup.

The Club welcomes any new players and anyone interested in joining should come along to the Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions that start at 7 pm.

The Junior section (ages U7-U16) will be holding their usual Registration Day for all age groups on Sunday, August 13 between hours of 10 am to 12 pm.

A further Registration event will be held on Friday September 1, from 6 to 7pm for all those unable to attend in August. The U12s have taken up an invite to play Rhiwbina RFC on the Cardiff Arms Park in August, which should prove a great experience for the whole squad.

At the recent AGM the directors and new management committee were voted in and days later Richard Jelley was confirmed as the Club’s new chair. The directors, management committee, section committees, coaches and players of all age groups are extremely grateful to all kit, match and other sponsors, who have generously agreed to support our club for the forthcoming season.

Sadly the very wet weather put paid to a recently planned PRFC v Quins golf match and the second annual PRFC v Pembroke Cricket Club (female and male) cricket 100 matches last weekend.

The Friday evening social ‘Touch Tens’ has proved a great success and will continue throughout August.

The Youth section recently held a very successful BBQ evening at Cresswell Quay, and are due to host another on Friday, August 17, starting at 5.30 pm, when they are hoping for lots of support.

The FPA (Former Players Association) met recently to appoint their officers for the coming year; this season the FPA will be sponsoring the Llangwm home match on October 21 and trips are planned for later in the season.

Everyone at the Club send their thanks and best wishes to Gordon Eynon (District H WRU Rep) as he leaves his post this year after sterling service over many years.

Meanwhile, the WRU will shortly be holding regional seminars for coaches of all age groups on the new tackle height laws.
