With no senior rugby last weekend supporters travelled with Pembroke RFC’s Youth squad to Fishguard, where a large crowd assembled.

Pembroke’s squad were sitting at the top of District H League hoping to claim a win to maintain their position.

The weather at last was dry and cold, with ground conditions at the Grange pitch very good. Pembroke had won the previous encounter, but the Fishguard squad were keen to cause an upset, particularly as they knew Pembroke were missing a few key players.

The whole game was played at a high tempo, with both sides willing to move the ball around.

The visitors took the initiative early on after good work by their industrious forwards and their backs moved the ball wide to create the first seven pointer.

The hosts yielded very little in defence, but Pembroke continued to press and more solid work by their forwards allowed them to forge a second score.

The home side undaunted continued to build phases of play and a neat chip kick into the visitor’s twenty two was collected by their wing to ran over unopposed for an excellent score just before half time, to the delight of his team mates.

The second half was equally well contested, with both sides showing their determination through very committed defensive work and some well constructed offence.

The visitors however, were very persistent, a little more tactically aware and created more opportunities, which they ably converted to eventually come out worthy winners by 7-22 and cement their top place in the League by a clear thirteen points from Haverfordwest.
