Following last season’s inaugural challenge between the Welsh Over 65’s football team and New Hedges and Saundersfoot United Over 60’s Walking Football team the second cup challenge between the teams took place on Saundersfoot Sports Field on Thursday, August 24.
Wales had won last year’s event and NHSU were determined to gain revenge.
In a well contested and high quality game both side had chances. Wales took the lead, only for Chris Jenkins to equalise with a header. Wales went ahead again, arguably against the run of play, but Paul Price restored parity with a shot from the edge of the box.
NHSU then took control of the game and Stuart Mackay added two further goals as NHSU ran out worthy 4 2 victors.
It is hoped this challenge cup match will become an annual event and it was clearly enjoyed by the players and the spectators.
