Haverfordwest Gymnastics Club recently took a selected squad of gymnasts to compete at the Welsh floor and vault competition held in Cardiff. This was the first time a local club had competed at such a prestigious event and it was an astounding success, which everyone enjoyed and will therefore hope to make an annual event.

Each gymnast had to perform a complex floor routine composed of impressive tumble skills and dance elements, as well as two vaults.

Isla Davies made her dad extremely proud and being crowned Welsh vault champion was an unexpected father's day present! Isla was the only gymnast in the under 10 category to perform a very difficult half on half on vault which boosted her start value and allowed her to win gold.

Other gymnasts competing on the day were as follows:

Under 10s - Isla Davies (1st vault, 15th overall); Seren James (29th overall); Katie Richards (30th overall); team - 7th position.

Under 12s - Josie Dodd (23rd overall); Abbie Macdougal (22nd overall); Sara Storrow (3rd on vault, 11th overall); team - 5th position.

Twelve years and over - Lauren Smith (25th overall); Katie Crimmins (22nd overall); Gennie Hemmings (21st overall); Emmy Milne (23rd overall); team - 5th position.

All the gymnasts are now taking a break from the competition schedule and over the summer period will be preparing for the start of the winter season where competitions will commence in September.

Rebecca Jones and Laura Jones would like to praise all of the gymnasts on their commitment and dedication to competitions and training over the last year and this has been demonstrated by the tremendous results achieved at all levels. It has been a wonderful year for Pembrokeshire gymnastics and even at national level Haverfordwest have been able to bring home medals which is a testament to the wonderful coaches, gymnasts and parents in the club.
