PENNARD Golf Club visited Tenby last Saturday for the second leg of the Loz Phillips Cup.

Earlier in the year, Tenby had lost 4.5 games to 3.5 at Pennard, a somewhat unique course above Three Cliffs Bay on The Gower.

Loz Phillips was a stalwart of Tenby GC and he thoroughly enjoyed the matches against Swansea clubs such as Pennard and Langland.

Unfortunately, Loz passed away suddenly in August 2021.

Tenby’s first three pairs all won 2 & 1 i.e. Captain Mick Seal and Neil Thomas, Rob Hall and Glenn Smith and Wyndham Collins and Austin Davies.

Austin wished to point out that in Tenby’s four matches against Swansea clubs (i.e. two v Pennard and two v Langland) he has won three and halved the other. He must have had good partners this year!

New pairing Phil Young and Mike Anthony hammered their opponents whilst Brian Jones and Richard Ormond stole their win on the last green after being three down with six to play.

Paul Northam and Edward Buckett and Chris Topliss and Ross James made it five 2 & 1 wins.

Bringing up the rear, David Evans and Chris Arlott enjoyed a handsome 6 & 4 win.

Consequently, Tenby “whitewashed” Pennard by eight games to nil and thus regained the Loz Phillips cup with a 9.5 to 4.5 aggregate.
