TENBY Golf Club’s Saturday Swingers held their Swingers’ Day recently in glorious weather, no rain and a fairly gentle south-westerly. The links were in an excellent overall condition.
Swingers’ Shield
The scoring was generally good with no less than 18 Swingers returning 30 points or more. Owen James, Phil Goodridge and Andrew Cope each had 36 points. Andrew came home in one under par. Spencer Harries and Andy Prosser both returned a fine 38 points with 22 and 21 respectively on the back nine.
However, despite hitting a caravan in Kiln Park with his final tee shot off Black Rock, Gary McKeown handed in a magnificent 40 points to claim the Swingers’ Shield for 2024.
Losing out on the countback to Jerry Whitehouse, Simon Evans’ 25 points reunited him with Spuddy. For the next year at least, Spuddy will travel between Simon’s home in St Florence and his lodgings in Bristol!
Neil Webb, Terry Martin and Steve Maytom claimed the Nearest the Pins and Dai Cope and Richard Ormond won the Longest Drives.
There were five Nearest the Pin in Two Shots prizes. Richard Noyce won two and Spencer Harries claimed three!
Neil Webb and Owen James had the only twos of the day. Owen James, Gary McKeown and Steve Maytom were the best “Secret” Three.
Ralph and Phil Johns’ Shield
This is awarded to the Swinger with the aggregated Best 12 Scores for the year.
Eight Swingers totalled 400 points or more.
However, thanks to his Swingers’ Day 38 points, Spencer Harries finished top of the pile to claim the Shield.
He accumulated a wonderful 427 points and an average of almost 36 points per round.
Dean Rossater, who missed Swingers’ Day due to holiday, was runner up with 425 points and Dai Cope, who enjoyed an excellent second half to the season, was third with 422 points.
Other leading scores were Richard Ormond with 415 points, Jerry Whitehouse on 413 points, Martin Morris with 406 points, Darren Thomas 405 points and Gary McKeown on 402 points.
Following their rounds, the Swingers enjoyed an excellent meal in Tenby GC’s Club Room.
The Swingers will be making a donation to Alzheimer’s Forget Me Knot Appeal which is the nominated Charity of Tenby Golf Club’s Captain Mick Seal.
