KILGETTY AFC women's team came away with a 9-0 win against Milford United when they visited Marble Hall on Sunday, writes Matthew Davies.

Adverse weather conditions didn't put off the women's team as gale-force winds and torrential rain battered against them.

Kilgetty played against the wind in the first half and both teams started brightly opening chances up at either side of the pitch.

The opening 25 minutes were tight with Kilgetty at times struggling to clear their lines as the wind blew the ball back towards their goal but the team held firm and battled hard, eventually gaining a hard-fought lead through Sam Richards as she broke loose of the Milford defence.

Returning player Becky Bonser made her first outfield appearance since September last year and soon showed what the league has been missing, rifling into the bottom corner before adding two more to round off a first-half hat trick.

Becky then added another after halftime before captain, Maisie Sharratt, found herself 25 yards out and hit a strike into the top right corner of the Milford net, scoring her first Pembrokeshire League goal for Kilgetty.

Bonser then added her fifth of the game, as Sam Richards scored another two from midfield, completing her hat trick and rounding the game off at 9-0.

"Outstanding today ladies. Despite the weather, you all played fantastic. 100% effort once again,” said Kilgetty Women coaches James North and Matt Davies.

“Well done to Kayleigh and Leah our new additions to the team. I hope you enjoyed your first match with us.

"Thank you all for putting in a first-class performance today and most importantly banding together as a team in torrential conditions.

“Very proud of you all. Up the Ghetto!"

Milford picked Kilgetty captain Maisie Sherratt as player of the match with Kilgetty choosing Milford goalkeeper Rhian Jones.

An excellent performance from the ladies, but credit to a Milford United Ladies and Girls team who battled throughout. Kilgetty AFC wish them all the best for the season.
