Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert has been bigging up next month’s spectacular ‘Pembrokeshire Christmas Convoy’ which will be travelling through the likes of Tenby and Saundersfoot - in support of a charity close to him.

With the festive period getting ever closer, preparations have started for this year’s spectacular ‘Pembrokeshire Christmas Convoy’ once again.

The annual event which sees tractors, trucks and all manner of vehicles (including Santa and his sleigh) joining in the fundraising fun will be taking place on Saturday, December 14.

Rhod was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in June 2022 and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

The 55-year-old from Carmarthen received his first clear scan in October of last year and said "life is sweet".

Rhod was a patron and leading fundraiser for Velindre, a specialist centre for non-surgical cancer patients in south-east Wales, for 10 years before his diagnosis.

The stand-up and presenter won a Bafta last month for the moving documentary he made about his cancer treatment.

The comic was named best presenter at the Welsh Baftas for his brutal and honest Channel 4 show ‘A Pain In The Neck’.

He also discusses his experiences in his current stand-up show Rhod Gilbert and the Giant Grapefruit.

Those that wish to take part and deck out their vehicles to bring some holiday magic to the coastal towns of West Pembrokeshire are encouraged to contact the organisers of the Christmas Convoy via their Facebook page or by ringing 07939 904995.

The convoy will leave Folly Farm overflow car park at around 5.30pm on the day, and make its way to places such as Begelly, Sageston, Tenby, New Hedges and Saundersfoot.

The flurry of lit-up vehicles that tour the locality are sure to bring a smile to faces once again, and it’s all for a worthy cause, with this year’s nominated charities being The Velindre Cancer Centre (supporting Rhod with his fundraising efforts); and The Fire Fighters Charity.

With regards to donations, there will be collectors stationed along the route with buckets before the convoy arrives and also for some time after it has passed through.
