A novel approach to mapping Tenby has been adopted by Ashley Connor, a designer from Newport, South Wales who recently told us about his Tenby ‘Underground Map’.

Ashley set up his design company, Simple Sheep Design, in April 2016 with an emphasis on creating fun and simple art prints.

A regular visitor to Tenby with his grandparents, Ashley wanted to create a map of Tenby, but in the iconic, simplified style of London Underground cartography.

The Tenby ‘Underground Map’ features all four corners of Tenby and over 100 ‘stations’ across five different ‘lines’. The lines are also Tenby themed, for example, the pink line is named after Caldey Island, and the green line is named after Tenby’s lifeboat, Haydn Miller.

The map took many hours to complete as lots of research was needed so important places, key roads, businesses and landmarks were included.

“It’s effectively a bit of fun,” said Ashley. “I often use a local printers which helps unemployed youngsters get back into work as I believe that businesses should be more than the bottom line and should do good when they can.”

As of January 2019, the Tenby Underground Map can now be personalised with a bespoke station. You could add your home, favourite place, business or wedding venue for example.
