Tributes have been paid by the community to someone locals have called a ‘true Tenby legend’ - with the sad passing of Chris ‘Faddy’ Thomas announced yesterday (July 18).

Faddy was a former volunteer crew member of Tenby RNLI and a sporting stalwart for Tenby United RFC.

A spokesperson for Tenby RNLI said: “Everyone at the station was saddened to hear of the passing of ex-slip crew member Chris “Faddy” Thomas recently.

“Faddy served on the slip crew for over 12 years, helping to launch and recover the lifeboat numerous times, including many as winchman.

“He was a huge character and was never more at home than when down the harbour, or out on his boat catching bass. His rendition of New Zealand rugby’s ‘Haka’ will forever live on in the memories of anyone lucky to have witnessed it!

“Rest in peace Faddy – you will be missed.”

Tenby RFC posted on their Facebook page today: “It is with great sadness that Tenby United RFC share the devastating news that our great friend, Faddy (Chris Thomas) sadly passed away yesterday.

“Faddy was a larger than life character who’s warmth and personality radiated throughout our whole community and who’s sad loss will be felt by many.

“As friend to all and a genuine person, he touched the hearts of so many. Faddy loved all things Tenby United, he is remembered fondly for his time as 1st and 2nd team manager and in more recent years he loved to watch the team play with his friends….which often involved his honest feedback later in the evening!

“Faddy was a huge advocate for our 2nd XV as he could see the importance of rugby based on fun and friendship…. two things that came to him with ease.

“Whilst his Hakka was somewhat legendary….to have ever heard his voice or sing, you’ll remember it with a smile! A true Tenby legend.”

Former Mayor of Tenby and ex-town councillor, Tish Rossiter shared: “Faddy you were one in a million. We will miss you so much. Love you Fadders.”
