The National Trust's 'Taste the Place' campaign tomorrow (Saturday) is all about reconnecting with our taste buds and the land around us and staff at The Bothy Tearoom in Colby are all set for the challenge with a special menu inspired by local seasonal produce, some of it from the walled garden on the doorstep.
"We'll be serving plum cake with Victoria plums from the orchard," said proprietor Sam Reohorn, "and honey cake using Wood Reef Honey from the Colby estate. Our Welsh Rarebit is made with cheese from Narberth and bitter from the Preseli Brewery in Tenby, the roasted vegetable flan contains locally grown carrots and courgettes as well as fresh herbs picked from the walled garden."
"Taste is something we're losing, because too many of our meals are packed with additives and flavourings," said National Trust director- general Fiona Reynolds. "The National Trust is warning that regional foods risk becoming extinct because the nation is losing the ability to taste complex and varied flavours. If we cannot taste them, we are less likely to prepare meals which include them."
The Bothy Tearoom will be offering a range of mouth-watering 'Taste the Place' foods throughout the day from 10 am - 5 pm.
