On Friday, June 8, Tenby Junior School football team travelled to Bridge Meadow Stadium in Haverfordwest to compete in the Pembrokeshire finals. They qualified with strong wins against St. Teilo's and Saundersfoot and were put in a group with Pennar, St. Dogmaels and Johnston. The first game was against Pennar and it was a match that Tenby dominated with many shots on goal, but it was a game that ended in a 1-1 draw, with Jerome being the scorer. It was a very similar match against St. Dogmaels. Tenby created many chances and ended up winning the game 4-1, with goals coming from Jerome (hat- trick) and Tom. The final group game was against Johnston and Tenby managed to top their group with a 2-0 win, with goals from Jerome and Declan. Topping the group put them into the semi-finals against Grove School. This proved to be a tough match that ended up going into extra time and a golden goal situation. Luckily, and deservedly, it was Tenby who booked a place in the final with a decisive goal from Jerome. In the final, Tenby came up against a strong Pembroke Dock team who convincingly beat Pennar 7-1 in the other semi-final. The final turned out to be a cracker, with both teams playing an excellent standard of football. Pembroke Dock took an early lead, but Tenby managed to equalise with a wonderful goal from Ellis. They scored just before half-time to put themselves 2-1 ahead. Tenby battled very strongly in the second half and a well-deserved goal finally came from Dylan. The match ended 2-2 and went into extra time and a golden goal situation. No-one scored during extra time so a penalty shoot-out was needed to decide the winner. Both opening penalties were missed, before Jerome stood up and buried his shot in the right hand corner to give Tenby the lead. Pembroke Dock unfortunately missed their second penalty and it was left to Charlie to be the hero, and he didn't disappoint. Tenby Juniors were delighted to be crowned as Pembrokeshire champions, especially considering that 55 schools had entered the competition. Their success rounded off what has been an excellent season. It was Jerome, Ellis and Cain's last game for the school and the Year 5 boys wish them well. Many thanks go to all the parents who have supported and assisted the boys on their travels this year. Squad: Jerome Mansbridge (captain), Dan Evans, Charlie Gammer, Spencer Williams, Dylan Rees, Declan Escott, Ellis Morgan, Tom Harries, Luke Hartland and Cain Thomas.
