A team of students from Dyffryn Taf School recently competed in the British School's Karting Championships at Thruxton Karting Centre, Hampshire. Having finished first and second in the local finals, Dyffryn Taf's two teams represented Wales in the South West of the UK regional final.

The teams, made up of Owen Griffiths (Year 9), Ross Chell, Morgan Miles (Year 10), Dean Norman (Year 11), Sam Jackson and Tim Frost (Year 12), made the long trip Saturday night in preparation to compete against some of the best karters in the UK at one of Britain's finest tracks.

The two teams of three drivers competed throughout the day, with each driver racing twice each and the teams' scores being calculated from these results.

Remarkably, both Dyffryn Taf teams finished on equal points in a creditable joint 16th place out of nearly 40 schools who had qualified out of their own respective regions.

This was an excellent achievement, given it was the first time for some of the drivers to compete at this level.

Special mention must go to Owen Griffiths for setting the fastest lap of the day out of all drivers on his way to finishing second and first in his races and to Ross Chell who also impressed as he gained two second places in his races, the latter achieved despite having to start well down the grid in 10th.
