A new walking group promoting physical and mental health kicked-off its first outing last week, to get 2024 off to a positive start!
The ‘Walk Talk Walk’ group set up by Saundersfoot Medical Centre took to the seaside streets of the village for its first get together.
County Councillor for the south ward Cllr Chris Williams led the group, accompanied by Cllr Rhys Jordan, the Wellbeing Champion for Pembrokeshire County Council, and county councillor for neighbouring St Mary Out Liberty (New Hedges).
“Thanks for making our first Walk Talk Walk a great success - fabulous turnout,” said a spokesperson for Saundersfoot Medical Centre.
“Come and join us again next Friday (January 19) at 12.50 pm outside the surgery. Please register if you can on the Heylo app - if you have any difficulties you can do it on the day, it takes 2 minutes.
“Thanks also to the Regency Hall for providing tea and coffee after the walk.”
Cllr Williams who had been highlighting the initiative in the lead up to 2024, said: “This has been so well received amongst our local community. I would encourage anyone who wants to have a gentle stroll or just have a conversation, to please turn up.
“This will be a weekly walking group where you will be able to talk and walk in a safe and confidential space.
“This will be a gentle 1 hour walk that is accessible to all levels of ability. We will walk as slow as the slowest walker and no one gets left behind.
“This group is not just promoting physical health but also nurturing mental and emotional wellbeing in the community.
“The surgery are extremely supportive and will have dedicated staff to join in.
“I want to encourage residents and the wider communities to be involved in any capacity that they feel they are comfortable with.
“This is really positive that the surgery and Regency, among many others, are throwing their support behind this new venture,” he added.
Cllr Jordan remarked: “Amazing turnout for Saundersfoot Medical Centre’s first Walk Talk Walk. Throughly enjoyed by all! All welcome every Friday.”
