Saundersfoot’s popular Big Bang Weekend is all fired up to be even more family-friendly this year.
The fun and festivities of Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night will be getting together today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) for a spook-tacular event of creepy activities and fantastic fireworks.
Saturday night will see two brilliant displays of pyrotechnics - the Little Bang at 6.30 pm, and the Big Bang at 8 pm.
The weekend is sponsored and co-ordinated by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, whose chairman, Phil Odley, said: “In response to public demand, we’re staging an early display so that younger children can experience their own fireworks fun before bedtime.
“And we hope that our 8 pm display will be even more exciting than ever, as for the first time, it will be set to music.
“Most importantly, both displays on this special Big ‘Double’ Bang Weekend are free of charge for everyone to enjoy.”
The weekend gets underway with a funfair on the harbour car park from noon today.
Around 300 youngsters are expected to take part in this evening’s Trick or Treat Trail, followed by a disco.
This popular event was under threat of cancellation after running for 17 years, but Wiseman’s Bridge Junior Rowing Club has stepped in to organise it.
The trail leaves Saundersfoot Sports Club at 6.30 pm. Tickets are £3 and children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are on sale now from the Regency Hall, Little and Large Lite Bites and Ocean Hair Salon.
The disco at the Regency Hall runs from 7.30-9.30 pm. The Sports Club bar will be open and hot dogs will be available. A raffle will be drawn during the disco and there will be children’s games and prizes for the best costumes.
There’s also a pumpkin carving competiton, and entries can be taken along to Dilys Photography Gallery this week for judging at 5 pm tomorrow.
The Spooky Bat Trail, running all weekend, offers the chance to win one of the cuddly bats hiding in shop windows and entry is free - pick up a form from Dilys or the coffee stand in the fairground.
There will be limited parking on the harbour, with more parking nearby in the Regency Hall car park and at Coppet Hall, with pedestrian access via the spooky tunnel at the end of The Strand.
