Two Tenby boys made the loca sailing club proud at the Welsh Regional Final of the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship held in Pwllheli on Saturday.
Charles Stewart-Walvin (12) and Connor Keohane (16) entered the 13-16 age group of the championship sponsored by Honda, Ribcraft, Icom and Indespension Trailers, in which eight to 16-year-old Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) drivers can demonstrate their skills.
With only half a second between them, Charles took first place and Connor second in a nail-biting climax to the day's boating.
Negotiating a tight course involving slalom techniques, safety manoeuvres and reversing, both boys achieved times some 15 seconds ahead of the rest of the finalists.
As Welsh champion, Charles will now go forward to represent Tenby Sailing Club at the national final which will be held at Southampton International Boat Show on Sunday, September 13, with the goal of winning a 4.8m Ribcraft RIB with a 50hp Honda four stroke engine, Indespension trailer and Icom 505 VHR radio for the club.
Thanks go to all those involved in training sessions over the past few months, especially Tommy D'Ortez and Ed Dashfield. Good luck Charles!
