Tenby’s outgoing Mayor told his colleagues that his reign in office came to a ‘rainy’ end recently.
Clr. Paul Rapi, who recently served as the Tenby’s first citizen, told his colleagues at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday night, that he had recently attended a garden party held by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
“I had a cup of tea in the palace garden party, and typical of my year in office, it rained!” he joked.
“Her Majesty popped out for a brief appearance, before popping back in because of the weather!” added Clr. Rapi, who recently handed over the role of Mayor to Clr. Laurence Blackhall, another debutant to don the scarlet robes of office.
Clr. Blackhall told his fellow members that one of his first events in the role of Mayor was to attend a celebration of town criers in Newport, along with Tenby’s Teifion Powell, who has taken up the position in the resort.
“It was a really nice event and very successful, and a huge honour to attend,” he remarked. “One thing that stood out for me was the touching way that so many town criers attending spoke with great affection about the late John ‘Yobbler’ Thomas, former Tenby town crier,” he added.
