With summer out of the way, plans are underway for Tenby’s festive celebrations, one of the highlights on the seaside town’s winter calendar, when Santa arrives to officially switch on the Christmas lights.
Plenty of festive fun is planned for Saturday, November 30, as the town’s Christmas Festivities committee will join forces once again with Tenby RNLI, Tenby Firefighters, and Tenby Coastguard to ‘launch’ the start of the Yuletide season in the seaside resort once again.
The festive fun usually sees local DJ Steve Briers on hand throughout the afternoon to keep the Christmas atmosphere swinging with plenty of festive, chart and popular music favourites, along with live performances in Tudor Square throughout the day, in the lead up to Father Christmas arriving.
A Christmas charity market has also been touted once again this year; along with the fundraising Santa Run organised annually by Tenby Round Table, with a suggested start time of 11 am for this event, as organisers believe it might bring more people into town earlier and would not conflict with the square becoming busier during the afternoon.
As well as plenty of live entertainment and stalls, there will also be children’s ride in the town centre once again this year.
Tenby Town Council have submitted an application to Pembrokeshire County Council for a temporary road closure of High Street, Tudor Square and St Julians Street, between 8 am and 7 pm, for November 30, to facilitate all associated festive activities.
As in previous years, once safely ashore, Father Christmas will arrive at the Harbour and be joined by Tenby’s Mayor Cllr Dai Morgan to travel along St Julians Street into Tudor Square escorted by a ‘blue light’ parade through a festive flurry of snow from the roof of Tenby House Hotel where he will greet the children and switch on the Christmas tree lights outside St Mary’s Church.
Santa’s switch-on of the Christmas tree lights will be scheduled for 5 pm.
Tenby and District Lions are also due host a Santa’s grotto, after his arrival, at Church House along Upper Frog Street.
During the closure any vehicles wishing to get to/leave the Harbour area will do so via Crackwell Street which will be temporarily made two way under traffic light control.
Arrangements will be put in place by the Town Council for residents/carers wishing to get to properties within the restricted area.
