A new clothes fashion store is coming to Tenby’s town centre - replacing a departing shop.
Described as a British lifestyle brand - FatFace will open in Tudor Square, replacing fashion clothing store Joules, which closed its doors back in February 18.
The Joules outlet had been situated in the centre of Tenby since September 2017, but fell into administration despite being bought by rival Next.
Fat Face is a multichannel retailer - which creates product ranges across women's, men's, kids, footwear and accessories - with over 180 stores in the UK.
In recent times, Fat Face pulled out of Carmarthen’s St Catherine’s Walk back in the summer of 2020, but the new branch will be based in the heart of the seaside town at Unit 2 Gower House.
In a ‘Heritage Statement’ given to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, discussing the plans for the store’s signage, exterior and interior, the applicants stated: “The Box design team have been engaged by Fat Face Ltd to propose an external and internal design and carry out the relevant planning applications.
“The Box have visited the site to ensure that we understand the shop’s existing design and style, and many photographs were taken to enable us to evaluate our proposals within the context of the streetscape, and nature of the building.
“The shop front will be retained as built with the addition of new signage. The shop benefits from existing ramped access from the street via the main entrance. Internally a new DDA compliant changing room is proposed.
“The layout of the shop has been designed to ensure good access for both those with disabilities and parents with pushchairs. The above information was regularly referred to as the design has been developed and specific attention has been paid to accessibility and sustainability.
“We feel that the proposed decoration of the existing storefront and the internal design proposals do not in anyway impact on the architecture of the building leaving it to blend in perfectly with the surrounding area
Discussing the proposals for the Listed Building application at their meeting this week, members of Tenby Town Council recommended approval for the provision of new signage, and to remove existing signage of Joules and replace with FATFACE letters in a new double sided timber sign, as well as approving alterations to the shop layout.
