Plaid Cymru have announced their constituency candidate for Mid and South Pembrokeshire seat for the General Election on July 4.
Cris Tomos is a well known community and political activist in Pembrokeshire and has previously been the county councillor for Crymych ward and Pembrokeshire cabinet member for Environment, Public Protection and Welsh Language.
He has lived all his life in Pembrokeshire, from a farming background. Cris now works for the community development charity PLANED, based in Narberth.
Cris commented: "It is a great privilege to have been chosen as the Plaid Cymru candidate to stand in the general election of the 4th of July.
“I will be focussing my campaign on how greater powers can be given to communities and neighbourhoods to address local employment, energy and home building opportunities and develop neighbourhood plans to support carers and those affected by the spiralling day to day expenses and cost of living.”
Cris continued: “There needs to be a fundamental change in British politics, a new vision of economic focus on communities and supporting small and medium size businesses within those neighbourhoods.
“We need to ensure communities can support and scrutinise development such as harmful waste processing sites in their neighbourhood and have the final say when harmful developments can be permanently blocked, such as the waste site in Withyhedge,” he added.
As part of constituency changes, parts of north Pembrokeshire – including St Davids – are joining the new Mid and South Pembrokeshire constituency, which will replace the Pembrokeshire parts of the current Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire.
The north of the county will be part of a new Ceredigion Preseli constituency joining parts of north Pembrokeshire – including Crymych and Maenclochog – with Ceredigion.
Cris will join the other announced hopefuls for the seat: Alistair Cameron (Welsh Liberal Democrat), Stephen Crabb (Conservatives), Stuart Marchant (Reform UK), James Purchase (Green Party), and Henry Tufnell (Labour).
Candidates confirmed to date in the neighbouring constituency of Ceredigion Preseli are Ben Lake for Plaid Cymru, Liberal Democrat Mark Williams, a former MP for Ceredigion, and Welsh Labour’s Jackie Jones, Conservative candidate Aled Thomas, and Tomos Barlow standing for the Green Party.
With the boundary changes, candidates standing for the Carmarthen constituency (which includes areas like Laugharne, Whitland and St Clears with Llansteffan) are: Will Beasley (Green Party), Nicholas Paul Beckett (Lib Dem), Ann Davies (Plaid Cymru), Simon Hart (Conservative), Bernard Holton (Reform UK), and Martha O'Neill (Labour).
