Narberth Beavers and Cubs have been looking at the difference that Fairtrade makes to farmers and workers, and supporting Fairtrade football.

Tavernspite teacher, Julie Houghton and Fair Trade In Football campaign founder, Sharron Hardwick, were invited to lead the session where the group took part in a Fairtrade senses activity, and the Beavers played some Fairtrade football games.

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. It’s about supporting the development of thriving farming and worker communities that have more control over their futures and protecting the environment in which they live and work.

The session was part of the group’s activities to connect with the people who make and grow the products we all enjoy and depend on. These activities are part of their badge work, including Global Issues Activity Badge, that encourages youngsters to try different kinds of Fairtrade products, talk about the benefits of Fairtrade in the world and to focus on fairness.

“It was great to see young people so keen to learn about how their actions can help others. They especially liked playing with the giant Fairtrade Bala football. We hope their hard work will be rewarded and they will all achieve their badge awards, and that their actions will help people to receive a fair deal,” said Julie and Sharron.

Fairtrade Geo Bars were handed out to the group, at the end of the meeting, funded by Hub Cymru Africa.
