Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) has been awarded the Green Dragon Environmental Standard for the 10th consecutive year.
The Green Dragon Environmental Standard is awarded to organisations that can demonstrate effective environmental management and that are taking action to understand, monitor and control their impacts on the environment.
MAWWFRS has achieved the highest level awarded under the Green Dragon Environmental Standard, ‘Level 5: Continual Environmental Improvement’.
While the Service cannot control the types and number of incidents it responds to, it can control how it tackles incidents to have the minimum detrimental impact on the environment where reasonably practicable.
The Service works tirelessly to reduce the impact fires have on the environment through training, collaborating with other organisations and community engagement.
Sustainability and Environment Manager, Jess Millard, said: “Following a three-day audit in January 2024, I’m extremely pleased that the Service has successfully maintained its Level 5 Green Dragon Environmental Management Standard accreditation for a 10th year.
“The audit consisted of a review of key environmental policies, procedures and practices.
“Visits to a number of Fire Stations covered key areas such as carbon saving, pollution prevention and demonstrating continual environmental improvement.
“This is a fantastic achievement and shows the Service’s commitment to environmental sustainability and nature recovery.”
