Tenby looks set to have one of its female councillors as Mayor for the ninth year in succession. For Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, the current Deputy Mayor, was unanimously appointed Mayor-elect at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council. Clr. Mrs. Rossiter, who will succeed the current First Citizen, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, will become the ninth woman to don the scarlet robes of office. Born in Guildford, Clr. Mrs. Rossiter, of Myrtle House, St. Mary's Street, moved to Tenby in 1950, when her father, the well-remembered Ernie Fitchett, took over as professional at Tenby Golf Club. First elected to the town council in July 1997, Clr. Mrs. Rossiter has six sons and eight grandchildren, with another one due in April. A former member of both Tenby Inner Wheel and Ladies Circle, she is current deputy chairman of the Tenby in Bloom committee and also a member of Tenby United RFC's social committee. "I know that Clr. Mrs. Rossiter will do a very good job in the role, and will be offered full support from her fellow councillors," said Clr. Mrs. Lane in proposing her deputy as her successor. The traditional Mayor-making ceremony will be held on Friday, May 13.
