The RAF has confirmed it is carrying out an investigation into an incident in South Pembrokeshire on Wednesday afternoon.

No members of the public were harmed in the incident involving a Chinook aircraft from Royal Air Force Odiham which occurred at 2.05 pm near Summerhill.

"The incident resulted in the aircraft landing in a field," said an RAF spokeswoman.

"All six aircrew were uninjured, but the aircraft sustained damage.

"A specialist technical team from Royal Air Force Odiham is on site to assess the aircraft and prepare it for recovery. A full investigation into the incident has now commenced."

A spokeswoman for Western Power Distribution told the Observer that following the incident, around 500 customers had been taken off supply as a safety precaution.

"Within an hour, half of those customers were back on supply, and by 6 pm, there were only 22 customers off supply, but they were all back on by 9 pm," she said.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed yesterday (Thursday) they had received a report of a helicopter making an emergency landing.

Said a spokesman: "No injuries were sustained. Western Power was called to the scene regarding a damaged power cable."
