A dog called Taffy was reunited safely with its owner on Sunday night, after a little help from the local coastguards.
Tenby CRT arrived at the scene near the Belmont Arch and located a five-year-old border terrier-cross some 30 feet down the cliff in undergrowth.
Rope technician Kris Steele was lowered by the team to recover the dog named 'Taffy' from his predicament.
Taffy was re-united safely with his owner from Newport (Gwent), who was part of a group of day-trippers to Tenby.
They had been returning to the multi-storey car park to collect their vehicles when the evening's firework display at Tenby harbour commenced.
Taffy broke his chain lead and bolted from the Five Arches towards the Esplanade and it was some time before the group managed to locate the dog from his barking.
Not knowing who to contact to gain assistance, the group contacted the police.
Dave Miller, Sector Manger for South Pembrokeshire said:
"Taffy's owners sensibly decided not to attempt to rescue him, but to contact the emergency services. You should always keep your dog on a lead when near cliff edges, as Taffy's owners did.
"If your dog does go over the edge of a cliff, you shouldn't attempt to rescue them unless properly trained and equipped to do so, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. You could also check the advice given by the RSPCA for fireworks if you think they might distress your dog when out on the coast."
