Friday October 13 was a very lucky date for St Andrew’s Narberth when the church was filled by an appreciative audience who came to enjoy an excellent concert in aid of the church restoration project.

The concert by Whitland and District Male Voice Choir included a varied and exciting programme of music by the choir ranging from Elvis Presley and Leonard Cohen through a number of classical Welsh pieces and ending with An American Trilogy which brought the audience to their feet.

The performances by three exceptional soloists were equally inspiring - Martyn Davies, baritone, sang Anfonaf Angel, and Owain Jenkins, bass, O Isis und Osiris from Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’. Carys Wood, the youngest performer, still a student at Haverfordwest High School, played several virtuoso trumpet pieces, also accompanying the choir in its finale. Carys was applauded when it was announced that she has recently been awarded a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

The concert ended with thanks to the many people who supported the performance in particular Hefina Jones, Director of Music and Owain Lewis accompanist.

Rector of St Andrew’s Rev’d Martin Cox thanked the choir for such a memorable evening and for its generous support, currently amounting to £900 for the Restoration Project which is now fully underway after the unavoidable delays caused by the pandemic.
