The first ever Landsker Legends Pembrokeshire Museums Festival launches next week. The festival, which runs from September 30 to October 5, celebrates the unique museums of Pembrokeshire.
The museums of Milford Haven, Narberth, Pembroke, Pembroke Dock, Tenby and the West Wales Maritime Museum, have collaborated to deliver a special festival, exploring the mythical and real-life legends of Pembrokeshire.
History themed talks will celebrate the heroes who operated the lifeboats at Angle and Fishguard, walking tours will explore the built history of Pembroke Dock, while the myths and legends of the Mabinogion in the west will be experienced through talks and ‘messy’ play. There’s also a coffee morning, and an online talk which will discuss why local museums are so important.
With events for all ages, the programme is as follows:
Monday, September 30 – Milford Haven 7pm: Angle Lifeboat and the History of the RNLI talk.
Tuesday, October 1 – Tenby Museum 6.30pm: Celtic Mythology talk.
Wednesday, October 2– Online talk (via the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre YouTube channel) Legendary Museums of Pembrokeshire.
Thursday, October 3– West Wales Maritime Museum 1pm: Charterhouse Lifeboat talk and tour.
Friday, October 4 – Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre 12 noon: Walking Tour of Albion Square.
Saturday, October 5 (morning) – Pembroke Museum 10am: Coffee morning and talk on the Stackpole Estate.
Saturday, October 5 (afternoon) – Narberth Museum 2-4pm: Messy Mabinogion Museum activities.
It is hoped that the Landsker Legends festival will be a launchpad for a new period of cooperation for the museums of Pembrokeshire, where institutions can work together to help strengthen their collective sustainability.
The festival is an opportunity to explore the amazing museums of Pembrokeshire, and help ensure that they last for the foreseeable future.
