Members of Saundersfoot's Lonely Tree Preservation Society recently paid a visit to Saundersfoot School to present prizes for the ‘Lonely Tree’ poster competition.

“It was a real delight for the society to hear head teacher Mr Nick Allen give an overview of all the engagement projects and field trips the school had undertaken in relation to Saundersfoot's ‘wonder of nature’ at the afternoon assemby on Friday,” said Nicky Mallen, treasurer of the Society.

“With funding from Saundersfoot's Community Treasure Chest, Saundersfoot's Lonely Tree Preservation Society were able to organise community engagement projects for Lonely Tree supporters of all ages including Saundersfoot School.

Liaising with the supportive staff at Saundersfoot School a poster competition was organised with year three pupils to enable them to show their love of the now famous Monterey Cypress that resides on Saundersfoot Beach.

“All the entries were endearing and it was a hard task to pick a winner,” continued Nicky.

Society chairman Cllr Martyn Williams BEM presented the prizes to the young competition winners which were as follows: 1st place Oakley £30, 2nd place Sunny £20, Joint 3rd place Charlotte and Aria £10 each.

Cllr Williams also presented a cheque for £250 to the school for all the children’s and the schools efforts in supporting Saundersfoot's now most famous tree.

Saundersfoot's Lonely Tree Preservation Society are indebted to Saundersfoot's Community Treasure Chest for funding the competition prizes and to Karen Brace, Lindsay Lewis, Mr Allen and all staff involved in this project for their support and assistance.
