Pennar Community School has been making a real difference over the last few years - in inspiring the next generation of climate champions.

Highlights in recent times include - in September 2022 Pthe School won the BBC Regenerators Climate Champions Group award for their work on COP 1.

In April 2023 they won the Green heart hero award the climate coalition in the UK. Schools that are inspiring the next generation of climate champions, going above and beyond to showcase and promote sustainability, to inspire students and to keep tackling climate change as a key priority.

In May they received their Gold sustainable schools award.

They made it to the final of the Tidy Wales award in June.

They were awarded their third Eco schools green flag.

In September COP 3 occurred, Pennar community school green team has been making a real difference led by Sian Taylor.

The Conference of Pennar - Climate Conference started the same time as COP26. All classes select a delegate to represent them at the conference and each delegate presents a possible solution to an existing environmental problem within the school and/ or local area.

The delegates then vote on each proposal and all successful proposals are then carried out during the school year.

As a result of the COP decisions we now recycle more, use less plastic and have improved the biodiversity of the school grounds.

In June of last year cabinet member Guy Woodham visited the school with County councillors Michele Wiggins and Tony Wilcox.

Councillor Simon Briskham, Deputy head Joanne Hinds and Sian Taylor are the driving force behind the green team.
