Creative Media Production learners at Pembrokeshire College recently showcased their media production skills in the annual Road Safety Competition in conjunction with Pembrokeshire County Council.
Level 3 Creative Media Production students were tasked with creating a thirty-second social media video aimed at highlighting the ‘Fatal Five’ causes of road traffic collisions. The video needed to incorporate visuals illustrating the consequences of not wearing a seat belt, driving at excessive speeds, distracted driving, using a mobile phone while driving, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
This fantastic opportunity enables students to demonstrate their creativity and refine their media production skills, all while gaining valuable industry experience to enhance their portfolios.
Sally Jones, County Council Road Safety Officer said: “Our annual Road Safety media competition at Pembrokeshire College challenges students to create a short film for use on Social Media. The standard of work was high as always and we were pleased to see the Creative Media students thought of new and innovative ways to deliver their messages surrounding the Fatal 5”.
Christian Pearce was announced as the winner for his ‘Speed Kills, Choose Life’ video focusing on careless driving, and received a cheque for £100. The judges also picked up on the bilingual element to the winning entry. Runners up Jac Dawes and Xanthe Horsley were also awarded a £50 gift voucher for their videos portraying the dangers of peer pressure whilst driving.
Course Lecturer Denys Bassett-Jones added: “I was delighted with the results of this competition. The creative media course aims to offer students the opportunity to participate in live brief projects and competitions as much as possible and they never cease to amaze me with their ideas”.
