Councillors in Tenby have asked for ideas from the public for ways that the 75th anniversary of VE Day can be commemorated.
When VE Day dawns on May 8 it will be 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe, and to commemorate this important occasion a three-day international celebration will take place across the UK.
The 75th anniversary will provide the nation, and friends from around the world with an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who ensured we all enjoy the freedom we share today.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Laurence Blackhall said that he welcomed suggestions from the town’s people on how to mark the special anniversary, which could included a service at the War Memorial.
“We’d welcome any feedback from the public, churches, the British Legion, ex-servicemen etc on what might be a fitting way to commemorate the VE Day anniversary here in Tenby.
“I hope w can do something together as a town that recognises the sacrifices made,” he added.
