An eight year old from Pembroke Dock has been praised for helping to raise over £150,000 for charity.
Neil Hamilton, AM for Mid and West Wales and Leader of UKIP Wales, was delighted to welcome Elly Neville, to the Senedd, this week and congratulate her on the success of the Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal.
The campaign, to raise funds for Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, began in 2015, after Elly won a school competition to design a collage of the Pembrokeshire flag.
Her father had previously been a patient on Ward 10 where he received chemotherapy treatment, following a bone marrow transplant.
Mr. Hamilton said: “Having supported her for many months now, it was a pleasure to meet and chat with Elly during her visit to the Welsh Assembly. She is a truly inspirational and determined young lady and has earned my utmost respect.
“She started the campaign, and began raising money to help the dedicated staff who provided care, support and life-saving treatment for her father during his recovery, and for the facilities of Ward 10.
“Her determination and enthusiasm has led to this tremendous achievement for someone who is still only eight years old. Elly deserves the highest praise for managing to raise such an impressive sum of money for such a deserving cause.”
Elly’s Flag Appeal started its campaign in April 2015 and in October 2015 it was adopted as an official appeal of Hywel Dda Health Charities.
By August 2016 the Appeal had raised £29,000 and, just three years from its inception, has successfully raised over £150,000.
