A ‘firm favourite’ with guests, Hubert Hilling has now been working with the Clarence House Hotel in Tenby for 52 years.

Over those years, Hubert has served three generations of the Phillips family.

“Hubert has worked for the Clarence House Hotel for 52 years and is a valued member of the family-run hotel’s team. He is a firm favourite with many of our guests, especially when he goes out with them for their day trip. His vast knowledge of the history and landscape of Pembrokeshire makes their trip fascinating,” said Manageress Penny Phillips.

Hubert was given an early retirement present from Loz and Penny Phillips in 2010 – a fridge as he had only recently had electricity installed in his historically original, 300-year-old clom cottage near Kilgetty.  In the Sun newspaper, alongside news of Katie Price and the Queen, there was an article about Hubert only just getting electricity!

The upgrade also got Hubert featured on the Welsh News. He even used the hotel’s old Seagull Bar carpet to give the reporter a red carpet reception.

Two years ago, a party was held to mark the long-standing staff member’s 50-year milestone at the premises on the Esplanade at Tenby.
